SWAT situation ends peacefully in South Bend on Monday morning

A SWAT situation on the northwest side of South Bend on Monday morning, Nov. 23, ended peacefully.

Officers were called to the 1700 block of N. Brookfield St. at about 2:30 a.m.

A woman told police that her boyfriend had assaulted her and that he was inside the home with her two young children, WNDU reported. She was concerned that he had weapons.

The SWAT team was contacted to negotiate with the man, while family and friends also tried to negotiated with him. He surrendered to police at about 5:30 a.m.

The children were not harmed in the incident, WNDU reported. They are believed to have been asleep.
