Arrest made after hit-and-run crash on South Bend Avenue on Saturday night

South Bend Police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured one person.

Police were called to the 2000 block of South Bend Avenue around 8 p.m. on Saturday , Oct. 17.

The driver got out of the vehicle, walked up to the victim, yelled something, then drove off, according to a witness, as reported by 95.3 MNC’s news partners at ABC 57.

The victim, who is an Illinois man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a severe head injury, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

South Bend Avenue was blocked near Vaness Street and Ironwood Road for about two hours while police conducted their investigation.

Mark Madejek, 38, was arrested in South Bend early Sunday morning and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, according to the news release.

The prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case for formal criminal charges, the news release states.

The case is still under investigation by the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
