Electrical shock seriously injures man working on electrical tower in New Carlisle

A Michigan City man was airlifted to Memorial Hospital on Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, after he was shocked while working on an electrical tower in New Carlisle.

Emergency responders were called to the 28000 block of Chicago Trail at about 5:20 p.m. and found the 24-year-old man suspended in his safety harness about 25 feet above the ground, according to Assistant Chief Bill Thompson with the St. Joseph County Police Department.

The man is an employee of Surf Air Wireless, a LaPorte-based broadband internet company, and was working on a wire outside a private home when he made contact with a charged electrical wire. At least another worker was the ground when the shock happened.
