Three-year-old boy dies after being recovered from Baugo Bay

A 3-year-old boy died after he was recovered from Baugo Bay, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Bryson Washington of Mishawaka died shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center

Conservation officers with the DNR were called to Baugo Bay for a report of child who fell into the water and had not resurfaced at about 4 p.m. The St. Joseph County Police Department and Penn Township and Mishawaka fire departments also responded to the scene.

Bryson was found in 20 feet of water without a life jacket about 50 minutes after emergency crews arrived on scene and was immediately taken to the hospital.

Bryson was with friends and family on a pontoon boat Saturday afternoon. He had worn a lifejacket while swimming in the water but took it off when he got back on the boat, the news release stated.

Witnesses said they head a splash from the back of the boat and were not able to find Bryson, according to the news release. They then called 911.
