Sobriety check point in South Bend results in 19 arrests and citations

Two people were arrested on preliminary driving under the influence charges during a sobriety checkpoint in South Bend on Saturday night, April 18.

Officers with the St. Joseph County Traffic Safety Partnership set up the checkpoint from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday, April 19, at Twyckenham Drive and Edison Road in South Bend, according to Lt. Tim Williams with the Mishawaka Police Department.

In addition to the DUI arrests, individuals were either arrested or cited for the following:

  • Expired license plates — 2 
  • Driving while suspended — 3
  • No seat belt — 10
  • Possession of marijuana — 1
  • Criminal misdemeanor — 1
