Michigan's spring fishing seasons fast approaching

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Fishing season opens Friday in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for those wishing to pursue walleye, northern pike and muskellunge.

The season includes Great Lakes and inland waters, as well as the St. Marys River.

It’s already legal for anglers to catch and immediately release largemouth and smallmouth bass on all waters statewide.

The possession season for bass opens statewide May 23, except for Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair River and the Detroit River, which open June 20.

Anglers fishing the Michigan-Wisconsin boundary waters, Big Island Lakes Complex, Sylvania Wilderness Area and Seney National Wildlife Refuge should check the 2015 Fishing Guide for regulations affecting those areas.

Details about new fishing regulations in effect for the 2015-2016 season can be found online.
