There is a nasty, stinky litter problem in LaPorte County

It was about six month ago that sheriff’s deputies in Galena and Springfield Townships began noticing an increasing amount of white plastic bags being dumped along roads in the two townships.

The grocery store-style bags contained dirty diapers.

Now, fast-forward to this week: Bags have been found along County Roads 125 East, 800 N, 900 N, Fail Road and CR 1000 N.

Low-risk inmates from the County Jail are picking up the litter. The LaPorte County Sheriff says in the short time they’ve been working, their truck is already full of extra large bags.

He says it’s criminal for anyone to litter like that, not to mention the health-hazard the decaying diapers pose.
