A Millersburg man has lost his life in a motorcycle vs dump truck crash.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of County Road 33 and County Road 40 around 11:30 am on Saturday where they found 61 year-old Dennis Darrenkamp dead at the scene.
The dump truck, driven by Jon Yoder of Goshen, northbound on County Road 33, and pulled into the path of the motorcycle, which was westbound on County Road 40, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
As a result, Darrenkamp collided with the truck, was ejected from the motorcylce and suffered a fatal head injury. He was not wearing a helmet, according to investigators.
Yoder was cited for failure to yield.
The crash remains under investigation.
In a separate incident, one person was killed and another was taken to the hospital following a collision between a motorcycle and car. It happend at County Road 6 and Emerson Drive in Elkhart just after 4:30 on on Saturday.
The motorcycle was westbound on County Road 6 when it stuck a car at the intersection of Emerson Drive, according to Elkhart Police. One person died and another was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
It was not clear if the person who died was in the car or riding the motorcycle, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.
Also on Saturday, one person was injured in a crash involving a motorcycle on U.S. 33 south of Bashor Drive in Goshen. Police have not released any details about the collision as of 7:00 pm on Saturday.
On Friday, the operator of a motorcycle collided with a minivan on John Weaver Parkway. The motorcyclist then fled the scene, according to Elkhart Police. The crash happened just after 3:30 pm near County Road 10.
The driver of the minivan told officers the crash happened when the driver of the motorcycle was changing lanes and rolled into the opposite lane.
The minivan driver did not suffer any injuries, but indicated the motorcyclist may have suffered a leg injury and a cut to the hand, however, police were not able to confirm that.
