Body found in woods near McKinley Avenue and Bittersweet Road

A body was found in the woods near McKinley Highway and Bittersweet Road on Friday afternoon, April 24.

The body was found by an adult couple who were on a walk, according to a release from the St. Joseph County Police Department.

Preliminary observations indicate the remains belong to a male, and had likely been there “for some time,” the release states.

An initial investigation of the scene suggests the body may be that of an individual who was reporting as missing earlier this year. 

“Until a positive identification can be made, no speculative information regarding the identity of the individual or the specific person named in the missing report will be released,” the release states.

Investigators from the Metro Homicide Unit are assisting county police detectives.

An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Monday.
