Man arrested in slaying of Indiana University student

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Authorities have filed preliminary murder charges against a man in the death of an Indiana University student whose body was found in a rural area not long after she was reported missing.

State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says 49-year-old Daniel E. Messel, of Bloomington, was arrested Friday in the death of 22-year-old IU senior Hannah N. Wilson. Police have not disclosed a possible motive or said whether Messel and Wilson knew one another.

He is being held at the Brown County Jail.

The Herald-Times reports that the Fishers, Indiana, woman’s body was found Friday afternoon near Lake Lemon in a rural area of Brown County. That county is just east of Monroe County, where IU’s campus is located.

An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
