A 19-year-old man has been charged in the death and burning of a 15-year-old Bremen girl whose body was found in December.
Fabian Roman Rubio was charged with one count each of murder, sexual misconduct with a minor and abuse of a corpse, the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday, May 4.
The body of Desirae Jones was found burned in a wooded area on Fifth Road south of Bremen on Dec. 19. An autopsy revealed that Jones died of blunt force trauma.
Rubio was interviewed by police Dec. 21 because he and Jones had exchanged text messages on Dec. 19, according to the South Bend Tribune. During the interview, police found a bloodstain near the rear license plate on Rubio’s truck. Police found nine more bloodstains in the bed of Rubio’s truck and on the spare tire underneath the truck bed while executing a search warrant the next day.
Rubio was arrested formally Monday, May 4, though he was already in police custody on unrelated charges. Read more about Rubio in the full story from the South Bend Tribune.
