South Bend Police's Scott Ruszkowski talks crime in South Bend, upcoming FOP ceremony

South Bend Police Department Division Chief Scott Ruszkowski stopped by Michiana’s Morning News on Wednesday, May 6, to talk with Mark McGill and Jon Zimney about crime in South Bend and about the upcoming FOP #36 fallen officer memorial ceremony.

Both Mark and Jon wanted to know if there is any correlation between warmer weather and crime. Scott said studies haven’t found a direct link, but that it definitely feels that way to many police officers and people in the community. He believes it’s due to the fact that people are interacting more with each other than they did in the winter so there are more opportunities for negative interactions.

The FOP #36 is hosting a memorial ceremony to honor fallen officers and their family at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the South Bend Police Department, 701 W. Sample St., South Bend. The public is invited to attend and the event will be held inside if it rains.

Hear more about what Ruszkowski had to say in the full clip above.
