Western Avenue improvements will be the topic of an open house on Thursday

South Bend residents and business owners interested in getting an update about improvements along Western Avenue are invited to attend an open house Thursday, May 7.

Changes planned to happen in 2015 include changing pavement markings on Western Avenue so that there is one thru-lane in each direction and a left-turn lane between Sheridan Street and William Street, according to a news release from the city of South Bend.

Also, new curbs, sidewalks, drive approaches, trees and decorative lighting will be installed on Western Avenue between Dundee Street and Bendix Drive. On-street parking and bicycle facilities will be added as space dictates, according to the news release.

The open house is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Charles Black Recreation Center, 3419 W. Washington St., South Bend.
