Child molestation charges result in 94-year sentence for South Bend man

A 29-year-old South Bend man was sentenced Friday, May 15, to 94 years in prison after he was convicted of molesting two children.

Matthew Grayson was convicted in March of three counts of child molesting, a class A felony, and one count of vicarious sexual gratification, a class C felony. He was accused of molesting a 4-year-old child and a 2-year-old child, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors had requested that Grayson receive a sentence longer than suggested for his charges because of the severity of the offenses and several other aggregating factors, including that he molested multiple victims who were very young and the psychological harm the primary victim suffered because of the abuse, according to the news release.

Because of those factors, the court also determined that Grayson is a credit restricted felon, which means that he must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence — or at least 79 years and 11 months.
