Indiana Gov. Mike Pence expected to announce re-election bid June 18

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A Republican Party statement means Gov. Mike Pence is expected to announce a re-election bid next month.

Indiana GOP Chairman Jeff Cardwell issued a statement Tuesday evening saying Pence “plans to formally announce his 2016 re-election bid during the Indiana Republican Party’s Spring Dinner on June 18.”

Pence has not announced his future political plans yet after saying he would wait until after the recently concluded legislative session to do so. He was considered a possible candidate for president until the passage of a religious objections law that he supported left many critics labeling the measure as discriminatory against the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community. The Legislature later clarified the law.

An email message for comment to Pence’s communications director wasn’t immediately answered. A telephone call to her office rang unanswered.
