Police say 2 shot near Walker Theater on Saturday, IUPUI put on alert

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say two people were shot near the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the shootings were outside a private party at the Madame Walker Theatre on Saturday night, May 30. Detective Gary Smith said one person was shot in the head and is stabilized but in critical condition, and the other was shot in the buttocks and is in stable condition.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Riddle said it may have begun with a disturbance inside the party. Smith said the party had reached capacity and a line had started gathering outside.

Smith said police were in the area and heard the shots, but the suspects fled.

IUPUI students and staff were sent an alert to avoid the area near the shooting.
