Woman, 74, rescued after 4 hours in floating, flipped Jeep

BIG CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 74-year-old woman was rescued about four hours after her SUV flipped over in a northeastern Lower Peninsula river.

WPBN-WTOM and MLive.com report two fishermen spotted the vehicle early Saturday upside-down and floating in the Au Sable River in Oscoda County and called police. Once the Jeep Cherokee was turned over and pulled ashore, the woman was found in the back and buried beneath debris.

The woman, who lives in both Oscoda County and Ohio, told officers she doesn’t remember driving into the water and likely was unconscious the whole time.

Sheriff’s deputies say she’s in stable condition at a Traverse City hospital.
