Sheriff: Body of Indiana man missing since May found in pond

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) — A sheriff in northwest Indiana says searchers have found the body of a man missing for nearly six weeks in a pond.

Lake County Sheriff John Buncich says the body of 23-year-old Michael Hernandez and his vehicle were found in a retention pond Thursday in Crown Point. Buncich says his vehicle was in 10 to 12 feet of murky water.

The (Munster) Times reports Hernandez went missing May 1 after watching a hockey game with a co-worker at a Crown Point bar and grill. His family searched daily for him at first, and asked that the FBI get involved in the investigation.

The newspaper says dozens of people watched Thursday as the vehicle was pulled from the pond.
