Victim, suspect named after deadly shooting in Mishawaka on Friday

Police have identified the woman who they say was fatally shot in front of two of her children in Mishawaka on Friday morning, June 12.

Precious Jackson, 22, was fatally shot just after 11 a.m. near Sixth and Logan streets in Mishawaka, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. Jackson was found lying in the street with several gunshot wounds when officers arrived.

Jackson’s two toddlers witnessed the shooting, according to Lt. Dave Wells with St. Joseph County Metro Homicide. Police found them wandering in the street nearby.

The suspect, 18-year-old Tyron Devon Johnson, was last seen running north away from the area after the shooting, according to the news release. 

Johnson is a black man, 5-foot 5-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds, according to the news release. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Johnson and Jackson had a 1-month-old child together.

All three children are in the custody of Child Protective Services, Wells said.
