Woman stabbed in Berrien Springs, son arrested on assault charge on Wednesday

A 37-year-old man accused of stabbing his mother several times in Berrien County, Mich., was arrested Wednesday night, June 17.

Police were called just before 8 p.m. to the 8600 block of U.S. Highway 31 (Timber Ridge Manor) in Berrien Springs for a report of a domestic assault, according to Chief Paul Toliver with Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department.

A 68-year-old woman was found stabbed several times in her neck and abdomen when police arrived, Toliver said. She was taken to Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph and underwent surgery. She was listed in critical condition as of 11 a.m., Toliver said. 

The victim’s son was arrested at the scene on a preliminary charge of assault with intent to murder.

Police believe the stabbing was an isolated case of domestic assault.
