South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s chief of staff has resigned and will leave the city later in June to pursue a master’s degree.

Kathryn Roos will attend classes at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.

Roos has served as Buttigieg’s chief of staff for more than two years. Prior to that, she was the finance director on Buttigieg’s 2011 mayoral campaign.

“I hope I have had a positive impact and helped move South Bend forward,” Roos said. “South Bend will always be home and I look forward to following and seeing the continued success of this wonderful community.”

Roos was recently cleared in a special investigation after a complaint was filed in 2014 accusing her of having public employees work on a private project at her home, a violation of state law.
