A South Bend firefighter may lose his job after his colleague said that he used a racial slur against a patient in February.

At the Board of Public Safety hearing on Friday, June 26, South Bend Fire Chief Steve Cox recommended that Michael Brown be fired from the department, according to WNDU.

Firefighter Albert Mroczkiewicz told the board Friday that Brown used “the N Word” while taking care of a female patient during a call on Feb. 20.

The firefighter also testified that Brown told the patient he was tired of the patients’ “filthy hygiene,” WNDU reported.

Brown told the board on Friday that he didn’t recall anyone using the slur, including himself.

The Board of Public Safety hasn’t made a final decision on disciplining Brown.
