More signs may be posted warning drivers of U.S. 33 bridge closure

More signs may be posted soon for drivers reminding them that the U.S. 33 bridge over the Elkhart River is closed between C.R. 33 and C.R. 44 in Benton Township.

The closure began July 6.

Some truck drivers either haven’t see the signs announcing the detour or chose to ignore them, then had difficulty trying to turn around, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners at The Elkhart Truth.

There is a detour set up for vehicles to get around the construction zone. The detour is: U.S. 6 to S.R. 13 to S.R. 15 to U.S. 33.

The construction project is expected to be completed by November.
