South Bend abortion clinic license not renewed by Indiana, clinic appeals ruling

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana State Department of Health has denied the renewal of a South Bend abortion clinic’s license to operate.

The South Bend Tribune reports the Women’s Pavilion appealed the denial of the renewal last month. Health department spokesman Ken Severson said Tuesday the clinic can continue operating until an administrative law judge hears the appeal in November.

The health department sent a letter last month to abortion provider Dr. Ulrich Klopfer saying the application for license renewal was denied after a recommendation from the Abortion Clinic Licensing Program. The letter cited a history of non-compliance, ongoing non-compliance, unacceptable plans of correction and a pending license revocation.

A woman answering phones for the clinic Tuesday evening said no one was available to comment on the matter.
