Elkhart man dead after shooting early Saturday morning in downtown South Bend

 

SOUTH BEND — An Elkhart man died after he was shot at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 1, near the corner of West LaSalle Avenue and North Lafayette Boulevard, according to WSBT.

Justin Sharp, 27, of Elkhart, was killed while riding in a green SUV at a nearby gas station, according to WSBT. A bullet also grazed another passenger in the SUV.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is currently looking for a person of interest in the connection with the shooting, who might have known Sharp, according to WSBT. 

An autopsy will be performed on Sharp to determine the cause of death at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in Kalamazoo.

Authorities had taped off a few blocks around the intersection earlier this morning, according to the South Bend Tribune
