A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family of a 10-month-old girl who was killed and her 9-year-old sister who was injured by a tree that fell onto the bleachers of Studebaker Park in Elkhart on Sunday, Aug. 2.

Yaretzi Jimenez and her older sister Yanari Espinosa were treated at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health after the incident, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners The Elkhart Truth.

Yanari made a strong recovery, but Yaretzi wasn’t able to overcome her serious head injuries. She died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. The family decided to donate her organs to others.

“Some lucky family will be blessed and stay with their loved ones for a little bit longer,” Sandra Rodriguez, a family member, told The Elkhart Truth.

Rodriguez launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the family pay for Yaretzi and Yanari’s medical bills. As of 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, $2,625 was donated.

The girls were two of five children injured by the falling tree, which also dented the bleachers at Studebaker Park. The others were treated at Elkhart General Hospital.
