Yanari made a strong recovery, but Yaretzi wasn’t able to overcome her serious head injuries. She died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. The family decided to donate her organs to others.
“Some lucky family will be blessed and stay with their loved ones for a little bit longer,” Sandra Rodriguez, a family member, told The Elkhart Truth.
Rodriguez launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the family pay for Yaretzi and Yanari’s medical bills. As of 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, $2,625 was donated.
The girls were two of five children injured by the falling tree, which also dented the bleachers at Studebaker Park. The others were treated at Elkhart General Hospital.
