Man faces up to 150 years after he was accused of raping, threatening to murder woman

An Elkhart man accused of raping and threatening to murder a woman faces more than 150 years in prison if he is convicted.

Jerry Wayne Young, 49, was arrested last week in connection with an incident in Elkhart that happened in October 2012, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

He was charged with rape, criminal deviate conduct where a victim is compelled by force and intimidation by threatening to commit a forcible felony.

The victim woke at about 3 a.m. Oct. 16, 2012, because Young was knocking on her door, according to court documents. She opened the door and he walked into her home without being invited, saying he wanted to “hang out,” The Elkhart Truth reported.

When the victim told him “no,” Young threatened her and raped her twice, according to court documents. The victim managed to escape after the second assault.

DNA from a rape kit performed after the assault matched Young’s DNA.
