Mike Pence returns home after outpatient hernia surgery

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has completed outpatient surgery to repair a hernia.

The governor’s office says Pence underwent the surgery Friday morning at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. The 56-year-old Pence has been released from the hospital and is recovering at the governor’s residence.

The governor’s executive authority was temporarily transferred to Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann while Pence was under anesthesia.

Pence’s spokeswoman Kara Brooks says the governor doesn’t know how he developed the hernia.
