INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent in July while private-sector employment grew to an estimated 2.61 million jobs, surpassing the historical peak employment levels of March 2000.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday the July rate is the state’s lowest since November 2007 and compares with rates of 4.9 percent in June and 5.8 percent in July 2014. The national unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in July.

The agency says private-sector employment grew by 4,800 jobs in July and that over the past year, Indiana has added about 60,000 private-sector jobs and a total of nearly 292,000 since July 2009, the low point of employment in the state.

Workforce Development Commissioner Steven Braun said unemployment insurance claims have fallen to their lowest levels since 1999.
