A 17-year-old boy from St. Joseph remains hospitalized after a car he was riding in crashed into a house.

St. Joseph Township Police were called to the scene in the 2300 block of Niles Road around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The car crossed three lanes of Niles Road, left the roadway and crashed into the home, according to a news release from St. Joseph Township Police.

The vehicle hit the home’s gas meter, causing a gas leak and evacuation of the area, according to the news release.

The 19-year-old driver and his three passengers were taken to Lakeland Hospital. The driver and two passengers were treated for their injuries and released.

A 17-year-old male passenger from St. Joseph was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he was listed in critical condition on Sunday morning, according to St. Joseph Township Police.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
