A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection to an attempted robbery at a supermarket in Elkhart on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 26.
The boy is being held at the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing, according to a news release from the Elkhart Police Department.
The police were called to the Cueramaro Supermarket at 317 W. Lusher Ave. Wednesday just after 1 p.m. after two male suspects walked into the store. Witnesses said that one of the suspects was armed with a rifle-style gun, according to the news release.
The suspects quickly turned around and left the store and fled the area. Three nearby schools — Monger Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary and Pierre Moran Middle School — on “lock-out” status while police searched the area.
Police believe the attempted robbery may be connected to another robbery on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Hernandez Bakery, 319 W. Lusher Ave.
The incident is still under investigation.
