The South Bend Police Department officer who was shot at during an investigation over the weekend returned to work for his next shift and doesn’t plan to take time off.
Officer Tyler Donlon, who has been with the department for six years, decided not to take any time off following the incident, Chief Ron Teachman said during a news conference Monday afternoon, Aug. 31.
Donlon was taking a vandalism report at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, near Brookfield and Hamilton streets when he heard gunfire. Several shots were fired.
Donlon and the two people he was speaking with took cover, but none of them were injured. He saw a red Ford Focus speeding away from the scene and shell casings nearby.
No arrests have been made.
