Cromwell man drowns in Mississippi River in Iowa

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an Indiana man has drowned in the Mississippi River in Iowa’s Muscatine County.

According to the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a call about a water emergency at the Fairport Recreation Area around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say they recovered the body of 58-year-old Ramon Duque of Cromwell, Indiana.

According to officials, Duque had gone swimming a short distance from a dock when he suddenly went underwater and never resurfaced. Police say he was not wearing a life jacket.

An investigation is ongoing.
