Man dies after personal watercraft crash on Lake Webster in Kosciusko County

NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a 53-year-old man has died after his personal watercraft collided with another being operated by his friend on a northern Indiana lake over Labor Day weekend.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Thursday that Jeffery Melvin of Columbia City died at a Fort Wayne hospital Monday night. The department says Melvin was hurt in the crash around 5 p.m. Sept. 5 on Kosciusko County’s Lake Webster.

According to the department, witnesses say Melvin made an abrupt turn into the path of the watercraft being operated by his friend. Witnesses say Melvin’s friend tried to avoid a collision, but the watercraft ramped over Melvin’s and struck him in the right side of his torso.

Indiana conversation officers are investigating the crash, but authorities say no foul play is suspected.
