Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay needs nominations for 26 torchbearers in St. Joseph County

St. Joseph County is seeking nominations for 26 people to carry a torch through the county for the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay in 2016.

The relay will go through all 92 Indiana counties and is one of several celebrations planned around the state to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Indiana’s statehood. The relay begins Sept. 9, 2016, in Corydon and will go through St. Joseph County on Oct. 8. 

Nominees must be a current or former resident of Indiana or be nominated in honor of a current or former Indiana resident, not have a criminal record and have the physical ability to transport the torch for at least one-quarter of a mile. Reasonable ADA accommodations will be made.

Nominations are due Dec. 31. Forms are available online, at any branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library or at the History Museum, 808 W. Washington St. in South Bend.
