Man charged in kidnapping of suburban Chicago woman who was found in Indiana

CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a man arrested in Michigan has been charged in the kidnapping of a suburban Chicago woman, who was found in Indiana.

The FBI said in a news release that 33-year-old Carleous Clay of Lansing, Illinois, was charged with kidnapping in a criminal complaint filed Monday in federal court in Chicago.

An affidavit says the 53-year-old woman walked in on a burglary at her Lansing home Thursday night and Clay came at her with a hammer. Clay is accused of forcing her into her car’s trunk, taking her across the state line to Indiana, going to two ATMs, and sexually assaulting her.

According to the affidavit, the woman was found early Friday in Burns Harbor, Indiana, and her car was found in Holland, Michigan, where Clay was arrested Sunday.

It was not immediately clear if Clay has an attorney.
