Bloomington man arrested in attack on Muslim woman to appear in initial court hearing on Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — A 19-year-old Indiana University student has been arrested in what witnesses described as a racially motivated attack on a Muslim woman.

Court records show Triceten D. Bickford faces multiple felony charges in the Saturday night incident, including intimidation, strangulation and battery.

A Bloomington police report says a 47-year-old woman was sitting inside a cafe with her daughter when a man shouted epithets and racially charged threats at her, including “white power” and “kill them all.”

According to the report, the man then grabbed the woman and tried to take off her headscarf. The report says her husband and passers-by restrained the man.

The Associated Press sent an email to Bickford seeking comment early Tuesday. Court records don’t list an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

An initial court hearing is set for Friday.
