Ground broken on major Elkhart sewer, stormwater project

Ground has been broken on a major sewer and stormwater project in Elkhart.
The project will allow existing combined sewer line to be replaced with separate storm and sewer pipes.
The more-than 1,600 foot section of 72-inch storm pipe will be the largest diameter pipe installed in Elkhart in over 50 years.
A new dedicated stormwater outfall will also be constructed, new water main will also be installed and will include replacing all lead service lines within the project limits.
In addition, the project will include new pavement and improvements of the road and sidewalk along High Street, 4th Street and Franklin Street.
Project details:
– $5.5 million project
– 1500 feet of sanitary main
– 5200 feet of new watermain
– 15 Lead Service line replacements
– 1300 feet of 12″ storm pipe
– 1670 feet of 72″ storm pipe
– Pavement replacement of sidewalk and roadway along High St, 5th St, and Franklin St.
