St. Joseph County police investigating officer-involved shooting in South Bend

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night in South Bend.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Portage Avenue after a robbery alarm was tripped at a cash advance business, our news partners ABC 57 reported. A South Bend Police Department officer shot a male suspect in the leg.

Police say the suspect who was shot had a gun in his hand and pointed it at officers, ABC 57 reported.

The man was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. No one else was injured.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is investigating the case because a police officer was involved.
