INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana State Excise Police officers have begun delivering informational flyers to alcoholic beverage outlets on how members of the public can obtain prescriptions for a drug that can reverse overdoses of opioid drugs such as heroin.

The agency announced that officers began delivering the flyers on the drug Naloxone to more than 10,000 outlets statewide Monday.

A new state law allows the public to obtain the prescriptions. Previously, only emergency personnel were allowed to carry Naloxone, also known as Narcan.

Gov. Mike Pence has asked all state agencies to help raise awareness of the new law.
