PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in southwestern Michigan are investigating a couple after their 2-day-old baby allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

The Van Buren County sheriff’s office says in a release that the 35-year-old man and 25-year-old woman could face child abuse, maintaining a drug house, drug possession and other charges.

Sheriff Dale Gribler says in a release that Children’s Protective Services and deputies went to the parents’ Paw Paw Township home Tuesday to check on the newborn’s welfare.

Deputies later spoke with the parents, and found materials used to make methamphetamine after searching the home.

No arrests were made. Gribler says the case will be forwarded to prosecutors for review.
