A Gary man has been arrested after LaPorte County Sheriff’s investigators say he led a deputy on a pursuit after being clocked traveling at 110 miles per hour.

The pursuit began around 7:20 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30. The deputy was on patrol along US 20 west of Rolling Prairie when he clocked a violator that was traveling at 110 miles per hour in the posted 55 miles per hour speed zone, according to a news release from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle was initially traveling eastbound at CR 200 E, but when the driver, identified as Steven Reeves, 23, reached CR 250 E, he suddenly slowed before making a “U” turn and traveling westbound for a short distance before pulling into a driveway in the 2300 E block of US 20, the news release states.

After police caught up with Reeves, he told them that he was en route to work in South Bend and admitted that he had attempted to elude him, the news release states.

Reeves was placed under arrest for Reckless Driving, class “A” misdemeanor and Resisting Law Enforcement with a vehicle, a level 6 felony.
