POLL: What should happen to the ISTEP test?

The future of the ISTEP test is in question after the 2015 test scores showed a major drop in the number of students who passed the test.

About 53 percent of students statewide passed both the English/language arts and math standardized tests in 2015, while 74 percent of students passed both exams in 2014.

Now lawmakers and educators alike are considering different options for the ISTEP test in the future. One lawmaker wants to re-score the 2015 test.

Meanwhile, Indiana House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath of Michigan City said on Tuesday, Jan. 5, that Hoosiers should prepare for the demise of ISTEP.

“We know a brand hit when we see one,” he said, comparing ISTEP to Enron.
