SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — More than a dozen police agencies in Michigan are expressing interest in getting armored vehicles from the federal government.

Saginaw Police Chief Bob Ruth says his department was among those that sent armored vehicles that had tracks like a tank back in December. The Saginaw News reports the department got the chance to get on a list for a new vehicle that has wheels.

The newspaper published a list of departments that expressed interest. Sheriff’s offices in Oakland and Macomb counties also are expected to be receiving the vehicles soon.

The vehicles with tracks were recalled under an executive order issued by President Barack Obama. He ended long-running federal transfers of some combat-style gear to local law enforcement in an attempt to ease tensions between police and minority communities.
