Woman rescued from SUV that flipped into ditch full of water near Berrien Springs on Thursday afternoon

A 22-year-old woman was hospitalized after her vehicle ran off the road and crashed her SUV upside down in a ditch full of water Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25.

The woman was driving on Linco Road near Scottdale Road near Berrien Springs, Mich., just before 2:15 p.m. when she lost control of her SUV because of the snowy road conditions and it flipped into the ditch, according to Chief Paul Toliver with Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Police

Responding officers, including a reserve officer, used a wrecker to partially lift the vehicle out of the water. The reserve officer broke out a rear passenger side window and helped the woman escape.

The driver and the reserve officer were both treated for minor injuries and potential hypothermia.

The crash happened while crews were working to clear heavy, wet snow from roadways throughout Michiana after a snow storm.
