Amy Beverland Elementary principal honored by Indiana lawmakers

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana legislators have approved a resolution honoring an Indianapolis elementary school principal who was struck and killed by a school bus.

Relatives of Amy Beverland Elementary School principal Susan Jordan attended the House and Senate sessions as the resolution was adopted Tuesday morning.

Jordan died in the Jan. 27 accident. Students had boarded the bus when the vehicle rolled forward and fatally struck Jordan. Witnesses say Jordan was pushing several students out of harm’s way at the time.

House Speaker Brian Bosma says Jordan “embodied everything we envision in a great educator.”

Jordan was school’s principal for 22 years.

A police investigation found that the driver of the school bus left the driver’s seat without putting on the parking brake.
