Kalamazoo shooting victims upgraded to fair condition

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Officials say the conditions of two people who survived a series of random shootings in the Kalamazoo area have been upgraded to fair.

Tiana Carruthers and 14-year-old Abigail Kopf remained in a Kalamazoo hospital on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Carruthers was shot outside an apartment complex on Feb. 20, the first in a series of victims that day. Abigail was shot in a restaurant parking lot.

Authorities say Carruthers sensed trouble when the gunman drove up and told children who were on a playground outside the apartment complex to run to a nearby home.

Six people were killed — four outside the restaurant and two at a car dealership. Jason Dalton has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
