Kalamazoo shooting victim to benefit from Gospel music concert

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A gospel music concert is being held later this month to benefit a woman wounded in a series of shootings in the Kalamazoo area.

Tiana Carruthers was the first victim in the Feb. 20 shootings that killed six people and wounded two others. A doctor plans to talk to reporters about Carruthers’ health status on Tuesday.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the benefit concert for Carruthers is being held March 18 at Galilee Baptist Church. Organizer Jermaine Jackson says the concert is meant to honor Carruthers and “give the community a way to heal through music.”

Jackson says there will be local musicians and others from the Chicago area.
