Multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County sends one person to hospital

One person was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital with serious injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County early Saturday morning, April 2.

A black car collided with two U.S. Postal Service trucks on U.S. 20 near the Fail Road intersection just after 5 a.m., WSBT reported. A second car swerved to avoid the crash and hit a utility pole.

The driver of the black car had to be extracted from the car and airlifted to Memorial.

Capt. Mike Kellems with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department told WSBT that he’s surprised the driver surprised the crash.

“The impact had to be tremendous. It’s difficult to tell that it’s even a car and the debris field (…) is 100 yards long and the width of U.S. 20,” Kellems told WSBT.

No other serious injuries were reported.
