A small dog was found dead on the property of a Mishawaka elementary school on Monday afternoon, April 11, and the incident is now being investigated as animal cruelty.

The dog was found “fatally injured” at Emmons Elementary, 1306 S. Main St., according to Lt. Tim Williams with the Mishawaka Police Department. Williams didn’t elaborate on how the dog was injured.

Investigators believe a person or multiple people entered the locked school grounds and injured the dog. The suspect or suspects didn’t enter the school building.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Lt. Doug Grow with the Mishawaka Police Department at 574-258-1684.
